Check out the newest piece of schlock in the world of December marketing – MenorahMate. (OK, I admit it – I’m just jealous I didn’t think of it)

Love the part about you admitting you were jealous you didn’t think of the concept for MenorahMate first! While it might seem like “shlock” to some – MenorahMate is my way of helping to ensure that the traditions and bonds that link the generations are passed along. For me, Judaism has always been about feeling part of something greater, bigger than I. I’ve always been moved by the knowledge that on Chanukah – and all other Jewish holidays – there are Jews all of the world reciting the same prayers, singing the same melodies that my family and I are chanting. What a gift to be part of that tradition. Wishing you and your family a very Happy Chanukah.

Thanks Debra, and I appreciate your desire to keep traditions alive. However, tradition won’t sustain American Judaism. And ceding to the materialism of American secular society really won’t sustain American Judaism (see my post ‘I hate Hanukkah’). If people who buy your product are more apt to like candles on Hanukkah, a bi gezundt!
